Yahoo's traffic spikes on Obama, Palin news

The presidential race is generating plenty of buzz online, and no one perhaps is benefiting more than Yahoo.
September was the biggest month in Yahoo News' 13-year history, with an estimated 41.3 million unique visitors, according to market researcher comScore. (That's up 16% from September 2007, says comScore.) About one-fourth of them zeroed in on items about elections and politics. How huge was the month? Enough to double News' traffic in 2004.
Driving the traffic are all things related to Barack Obama and Sarah Palin. The most traffic for News this year came on Aug. 29, when McCain named Palin as his veep choice and a day after Obama’s historic acceptance speech. Yahoo News has logged more than 1 billion video streams this year, many of them related to the election.By Jon SwartzPhoto: Sarah Palin. (Carolyn Kaster, AP)
