The Force is with BioWare

A couple of weeks back in this space, we discussed an imminent announcement by LucasArts and Edmonton-based BioWare about the development of a massively-multiplayer online role-playing game for the PC.
As expected, Star Wars: The Old Republic has been in development for some time and is set in the same timeframe as BioWare’s 2003 Xbox hit, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. In the new game, players will be able to play as Jedi, Sith or as other roles, with an emphasis on collaborative gaming with others.
"Traditionally, massively multiplayer online games have been about three basic game-play pillars: combat, exploration and character progression," said Dr. Ray Muzyka, general manger and CEO of BioWare, in a company release.
"In Star Wars: The Old Republic, we’re fusing BioWare's heritage of critically-acclaimed storytelling with the amazing pedigree of Lucasfilm and LucasArts, and adding a brand-new fourth pillar to the equation: story. At the same time, we will still deliver all the fun features and activities that fans have come to expect in a triple-A massively multiplayer online game," adds Muzyka.
A release date will be announced at a later time, but anxious Star Wars fans can visit the game's website for additional details and images.
