New team to fight cybercrime

McAfee taking its fight against cybercrime to a new level.
Today, it unfurled the McAfee Initiative to Fight Cybercrime, a wide-ranging plan that calls for action from law enforcement, academic institutions, government, the security industry and others to step up investigations and prosecutions of cybercrime.
McAfee is creating the McAfee Cybercrime Advisory Council, a group of experts to be chaired by former White House Cybersecurity Adviser Howard Schmidt. Professors Ian Brown, of Oxford University, and Lillian Edwards, of Sheffield University, have agreed to join the council, along with Parry Aftab, founder and manager of WiredSafety, the world's largest cybersafety help group.
McAfee also is announcing a new McAfee Cybercrime Fighter Grants program and Cybercrime Assistance Unit. It has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars into its foray.
"Things are turning (in the fight against cybercrime)," McAfee CEO Dave DeWalt says. "We have a start, but we feel so many more things can be done. What do we have here at McAfee to help?"
