Starting Sunday, the 3G Apple iPhone will be available at Best Buy stores across the USA. The iconic device, which debuted a year ago, until now has been sold exclusively by Apple and AT&T.
Best Buy has a reputation for offering good deals on all sorts of high-tech toys and other stuff. But, alas, there will be no slash-and-burn discounts on iPhones. Prices will be the same: $199 for the 8GB model and $299 for the 16 GB model. And you’ll still have to sign a two-year service contract with AT&T to get the device.
Activiations will be done in-store, just as they are now done at AT&T and Apple stores. Best Buy is offering a little something extra, however -- “accessory packages” that feature iPhone-friendly gear. Prices start at $105.99.
The most expensive package, for the car – aptly named “In the Car package” – includes a Belkin FM transmitter and a jawbone Bluetooth headset. Cost: $233.99. You can also put together your own accessory pack. If you purchase at least $99 worth of gear, you’ll get a 10% discount. (No discounts on the iPhone itself, no matter how much gear you buy.)
Best Buy plans to advertise the availability of the iPhone, as well as the new accessory packs, in circulars across the USA on Sunday.
